Garbage Collection

The Kent Regional Service Commission (KRSC) provides solid waste management services for Five Rivers and it’s surrounding communities. Their Solid Waste programs aim to reduce waste, increase recycling and composting, and safely dispose of hazardous materials.

How to sort your garbage (3-stream Program):

The 3-Stream Program is a waste management initiative offered by the Kent Regional Service Commission (KRSC) in Kent County, New Brunswick. The program is designed to help residents properly dispose of their waste and recycle materials in a sustainable and environmentally friendly manner.

The 3 streams are:

Garbage

Garbage – this stream is for non-recyclable and non-compostable waste that cannot be diverted from the landfill. Residents can use clear garbage bags to dispose of their waste, which helps KRSC staff easily identify non-compliant materials.

Recyclables

Recyclables – this stream is for materials that can be recycled, including paper, cardboard, plastic containers, metal cans, and glass jars and bottles. These materials should be placed in blue recycling bags and placed at the curb on recycling day.

Organics

Organics – this stream is for organic materials that can be composted, including food waste, yard waste, and soiled paper products such as napkins and paper towels. Residents can use green compost bags to dispose of these materials, which are collected every other week during the summer and once a month during the winter.

It’s important to note that the 3-Stream Program is mandatory for all residents of Kent County, and non-compliance can result in fines or other penalties. By participating in the 3-Stream Program, you can help reduce the amount of waste going to landfills, conserve natural resources, and protect the environment for future generations.

Bulky Waste Collection

The Bulky Waste Program offered by the Kent Regional Service Commission (KRSC) is designed to help Five Rivers’ residents and other surrounding communities dispose of large items that cannot be picked up through regular curbside collection.  Here are some important things to know about the program:

In April 2023, the KRSC introduced a new way to collect your bulky waste.

  • The service is now offered year-round and up to eight (8) times per year.
  • You must now register every time you want a bulky waste collection
  • There is a limit of six (6) items per collect – for a total of up to 48 items per year
  • Building materials are accepted in bundles no larger than 4 x 2 x 2 ft (1.2 x 0.6 x 0.6 m) and 50lb (23 kg).
  • You can not use black or opaque bags, put waste in trailers or truck beds, or put out hazardous waste, car parts, or commercial waste
  • Remember to have your bulky items at the curb before 4 a.m. on your collection date.

To register for your Bulky Waste collection, please fill out the form or by phone at 506-743-1490.
