Emergency Plan

In the event of an emergency, it is essential to be prepared. At Five Rivers, we take emergency preparedness seriously and are committed to keeping our community safe.

Emergency Plan for Five Rivers

Over the next few months, Five Rivers will be developing an emergency plan for the community. This plan will include detailed procedures for various emergencies. Our goal is to ensure that our community is ready to respond to emergencies and to mitigate any potential damage.

Flooding Safety

Flooding is a common natural disaster that can occur in any community. To help prepare for this type of emergency, we recommend visiting getprepared.gc.ca/cnt/hzd/flds-en.aspx to learn more about flooding safety. This website provides valuable information on what to do before, during, and after a flood, as well as how to minimize damage and protect yourself and your loved ones.

Five easy steps to build a family emergency kit:
Step 1:

Choose a Suitable Container

The first step in creating a family emergency kit is to choose a suitable container to hold all the necessary items. A large plastic container with a secure lid or a backpack can work well. Make sure it is sturdy and easy to carry.

Step 2:

Include Basic Supplies

The next step is to gather basic supplies that will be needed in case of an emergency. These may include water, non-perishable food, a flashlight with extra batteries, a first aid kit, a whistle, a battery-powered radio, and a multi-purpose tool.

Step 3:

Think about Specific Needs

Depending on your family’s unique needs, you may want to include additional items in your emergency kit. This may include medications, pet food, baby formula, diapers, and other items specific to your family’s needs.

Step 4:

Keep Important Documents

It’s important to keep important documents in your emergency kit, such as copies of identification cards, passports, and insurance policies. Additionally, include an emergency contact list with phone numbers of family members and emergency services.

Step 5:

Store in a Safe Location

Once you have assembled your family emergency kit, it’s important to store it in a safe location that is easily accessible in case of an emergency. Make sure everyone in your family knows where the kit is located and how to use its contents.
