Register for Affordable Housing
In New Brunswick, the provincial government allocates funding for affordable housing based on demonstrated need, which is based on the number of people who are registered on their provincial waitlist in a given area. So, if you need affordable housing, you need to contact the province to get your name on the list.
Who can register for affordable housing?
To qualify, a person’s yearly income must be less than $50,500. To confirm level of income, look at line 150 in your 2025 income tax form.
How does a person register?
To register, take the following steps.
1. Call 1-833-733-7835 (for the Department of Social Development at the Government of New Brunswick).
2. Choose “1” for English or “2” for French.
3. Once you hear the menu, press “4” for housing programs and services.
4. Press “1” for the Richibucto and Rexton area.
After this, you will speak to a live agent, who will take your information and place you on the waitlist.
Note: When you speak to the agent, you can advise them to add a note to your case file to say that you would prefer to reside in Rexton (instead of Richibucto).
Do you file income tax forms for others?
If you are an income tax professional, or someone else who helps others file their taxes, we encourage you to share this information with anyone who may need affordable housing, especially with seniors over the age of 60.
