Committees of Council
Municipal Councils can form standing committees and ad hoc committees.
- Standing committees address standard matters such as by-laws, public safety, finance, and recreation.
- Ad hoc committees address matters with of finite duration with start and finish dates, for example, for special projects.
Five Rivers has two standing committees:
-
The Finance Committee makes recommendations to Council regarding operating budgets and capital budgets. Current members of the Finance Committee include Mayor Beers, Deputy Mayor Campbell, and Councilor Flanagan.
- The By-Law and Policy Committee makes recommendations to Council regarding additions or changes to municipal by-laws and policies. Current members of the Finance Committee include Mayor Beers, Deputy Mayor Campbell, and Councilor Warren.
Later in 2025, Five Rivers will form an ad hoc committee to develop a new Rural Plan. The Rural Plan Committee will define regulations for residential, commercial, and industrial zones in Five Rivers. It will have eight members: a Planner from from the Kent Regional Service Commission, the Mayor, the Deputy Mayor, the CAO, and four residents of Five Rivers to be appointed by Council. The committee will create a Rural Plan for all areas in Five Rivers, replacing the current Rural Plans for Rexton and Harcourt.
