How and when was Five Rivers formed?

As a result of the municipal reform process initiated by former Premier Higgs in 2022, Five Rivers came into being officially on January 1, 2023. According to that reform process, more than 340 former villages, towns, cities, and Local Service Districts (LSDs) were amalgamated into 77 local governments and 12 rural districts. Five Rivers was formed when the former village of Rexton was amalgamated with the former LSDs of Harcourt, Weldford, and Richibucto Parish.
